Why, Young People?

Once upon a time it was unusual or offensive for young'uns to cuss, curse and put down their parents. Granted, sometimes they deserve it, but let me point something out to you-

Among the topics in the first chapter of Romans are these verses:

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parentswithout understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. (Romans 1:28-32)

I've highlighted some words that people frequently, conveniently, gloss over. There is a lot of focus on words here like fornication (sex outside of marriage- and, people, fooling around is sex to God too- Matthew 5:28 ) but often people don't want to hear that they're worthy of death for disobeying their parents. Also in this list of words is another interesting one: backbiters. What's a backbiter? According to the link, a backbiter is someone who speaks spitefully about someone else. Speaking with spite is willfully (maliciously) speaking things that would hurt the person if they heard it.

There's a LOT of internet speak that is young kids chatting about how their parents are idiots. What this verse is saying, young people, is that by doing something as simple as calling your parents stupid, you condemn yourself. Something else you should see here, is that the above verses also state that these people also take pleasure in those that do these things. Your friend ever say that their parents are dumb, and then you respond by nodding, then grin? Yeah? You're taking pleasure in your friend defaming their parents- something this verse said you'd do.

Now, backbiting isn't limited only to parents- if you say mean things about anyone, that's backbiting too.

Now, this is not supposed to just condemn you all right now. That's not what I'm here to do- I'm here to point this out, mostly because it breaks my heart when I hear anyone bad-mouth someone else. Keep in mind, it's one thing to say "my parents grounded me and I'm pissed off at them" and another to say "my parents suck"- one is a statement of fact, and another is an opinion that slanders them (which is also backbiting, by the way).

Please, kids, think about what you're doing before you put it online for the world to see.
